Stephen obtained his LLB from Otago University in 1987, practised as a lawyer in London, UK in 1988 and in New Zealand from 1993. He established his own practice as a barrister and solicitor in 2003 and merged his business with Richmond Law in 2007. 

As a partner at Richmond Law, Stephen specialises in estate litigation, employment and relationship property litigation and commercial dispute resolution. Stephen has over 25 years experience representing clients in a broad range of family, employment and civil litigation matters. He has represented private and commercial clients in the New Zealand jurisdictions including the District Court, the Family Court, the Employment Relations Authority, the Employment Court, the High Court, the Court of Appeal and various tribunals.

Stephen also advises various community organisations as honorary solicitor.
